There are so many unique experiences to have had in Panama City so I have rounded up a few of my favorite must-do’s for while you’re here…
Experience Panama Pride
If you happen to be in Panama City at the end of June/early July you have to experience the pride festivals.
When you click those links and buy something, we make a little money. This allows us to work on this website full time.

A Queer Guide To Panama City
This post is also available in: Español (Spanish)
This gay travel guide is your passport to exploring Panama City through a queer lens, discovering its LGBTQ+ friendly spaces, events, and experiences that will make your visit truly unforgettable.
Panama City has become more tolerant of LGBTQ+ life over the last 10 years, and is now a place that same-sex couples will enjoy visiting.
There is now a huge yearly pride parade that takes place in Casco Viejo, lots of gay-friendly establishments, and overall so many unique experiences to have in Panama.
Does Panama City have a gay neighborhood?
Via Argentina is the unofficial “gayborhood” in Panama City.
The energy is contagious, and it’s where locals and travelers blend effortlessly.

Must-Visit Spots
BLG (Bar Los Gatos): Panama’s most iconic gay bar — themed nights, open bar events, and a loyal crowd that feels like family.
XS Club: High-energy beats, drag performances, and the late-night dance floor everyone ends up on.
Maluka Rooftop: The perfect pre-game — cocktails, city views, and an inclusive vibe that sets the tone for the night.
The Insider Experience
If you want to skip the guesswork, our Gay Nightlife Tour combines all the best spots — VIP entry, open bar, local hosts, and new friends.
Both have photo-ready ambiences, delicious food, and have an open-mimosa special on the weekends. Or if you’re lucky you might be in town for a special Drag Brunch event. Selina’s Casco location regularly hosts LGBTQ+ events and pre-parties — and you can even stay overnight.
El Apartamento + El Sótano (El Cangrejo)
These bohemian twin venues are favorites of the city’s creative crowd.
Get ready for the ultimate golden-hour experience! Think queer poetry slams, drag nights, and dance parties in intimate spaces that feel like a second home.
Tribal Gathering Lab (Casco Viejo)
More than a venue — this cultural lab is a grassroots movement space for Panama’s queer and trans community.
I recommend following @worldpridepanama on Instagram for a full event agenda. Sail through the stunning waters of Panama City on a catamaran, soaking in breathtaking sunset views you won’t find anywhere else. They exhibits will be in Spanish but they have English-speaking guides that can help with explanations.
Go zip lining on a city skyscraper
If you’re looking to experience some thrills in Panama City, you can now zip line off the top of a building with Poin Panama.
You’ll get to also explore the Via Argentina neighborhood which is known for being the most queer friendly in Panama City.
Take a photo in front of the rainbow Panama sign
Panama City has an insanely beautiful long stretch of waterfront park called Cinta Costera where you can go running, biking, do yoga, use free workout equipment, play basketball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, ping pong, or just sit on a bench and people-watch while enjoying a raspao (snow cone).
It’s open everyday but Monday with $5 admission.
Experience Panama City by helicopter
I always say that the views in Panama City are stunning and now you have the chance to enjoy them in a private helicopter. You’ll get to see the Panama Canal, Panama City skyscrapers, the Biomuseo, the Bridge of the Americas, and Casco Viejo in a way that most tourists don’t get to see. BOOK HERE.

Love chocolate?
Additionally, scattered across the city are a handful of gems that I also recommend for an unforgettable stay.
Going out in Panama City
Panama City only has three official gay clubs, but there are a lot of gay-friendly establishments and events to know about. I recommend going after 4 pm because the heat can be intense. Local LGBTQ+ advocacy groups like Fundación Iguales continue to promote equal rights and visibility throughout the country.
Gay Clubs in Panama City
Panama City boasts several popular gay clubs and bars, offering a vibrant nightlife experience:
El Sotano / El Apartamento in Bella Vista is perhaps the most crowded gay-friendly venue.
My two-favorite brunch spots are Mahalo and Café Lavanda.
Book a queer-friendly food tour
Get ready for an immersive tasting menu as you get to experience the real Panama – from the gritty to the most Insta-gramable, and everything in between.
