I'm trying to learn, trying to do better and I will keep listening."

During his run on Supernatural (in the show's last six seasons), Misha played an angel named Gabriel, who came out as gay in the final season. But before it hit big, Eric Kripke wasn’t sure if it would be successful enough to continue past the initial seasons.

"On this last day of [Pride Month], I'm just pledging to do my part to keep fighting for equity, to keep fighting to make this society we can be proud of. So, we give and then we take away."

Collins is married to Victoria Vantoch, and has been since 2001. As for the "bury your gays" accusation, Collins pushed back by saying that Castiel's declaration of love not only proved powerful enough to save Dean but, by extension, all of humanity.

So, we give and then we take away."

In light of the U.S.

Supreme Court's decision this week to allow private businesses to discriminate against the LGBTQIA community for simply being who they are, Supernatural & Gotham Knights star Misha Collins took to social media to not only speak out on the court's numerous decisions this week but also reaffirm his support for the LGBTQIA.

In order to clear the air, the actor took to X to share five lengthy tweets, stressing that he was “deeply sorry for the clumsiness of my language”. How many extroverts? "So Castiel makes this homosexual declaration of love, which is amazing that that happens, and then he dies right after, which plays into a timeless Hollywood trope of 'kill the gays,' which pisses off [fans].

(Apparently a rogue translator penned their own dialogue.)

Also, in my opinion Cas doesn't play into the "bury your gays" trope. My clumsy intention was to wave off actually discussing my sexuality, but I badly fumbled that and understand that was seen as me coming out as bisexual."

"This was not my intention, so I need to correct the record: I am not bisexual," he continued." I happen to be straight, but I am also a fierce ally and the last thing I want to do is falsely co-opt the struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community."

Misha, who married Victoria Vantoch in 2001 and is dad to West, 12, and daughter Maison, 9, explained, "I believe and fully support that we need to sanctify the human right to express our identities honestly and to be free to love whomever we choose openly."

Adding that he is "deeply sorry for the clumsiness of my language," Misha concluded, "I want to be a better ally and I feel sick to my stomach that I might have done anything to make things worse.

Fans are kind of freaking out after that."

"To complicate matters, he dies after that," Collins continued. I'm trying to learn, trying to do better and I will keep listening. And as if that wasn't more than enough, Collins also dropped four words at the end of his Instagram caption that's gotten social media buzzing: "Also, Cas is gay." While the issues of Castiel's sexuality and the potential for a "Destiel" – Castiel/Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles)  – are ones that have been and continue to be discussed and debated among the fans – especially nearly three years earlier (more on that in a moment).

But I'm confident you guys can sort that part out as your writing and art and imaginations play the story out past the last frames we filmed.

I'm proud to have spent more than a decade of my life telling a story where good consistently triumphs over evil…

And I'm especially proud that my character's parting message was, "expressing your true self, letting yourself love who you truly want to love, openly & honestly, can literally save the world… & in the end, good things do happen — & they're worth fighting for." I love you all."

Enjoyed this?

However, the actor further explained that while “[He] I happen to be straight”, he’s still a fierce ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. His declaration of love saves Dean, enabling Sam and Dean to save all of humanity.

During a convention in 2020, Misha acknowledged his character's development, saying in part, "So Castiel makes this homosexual declaration of love, which is amazing that that happens, and then he dies right after, which plays into a timeless Hollywood trope of 'kill the gays,' which pisses off [fans]. And how many bisexuals?"

Answering his own question, he said, "I'm all three." Watch above.

Later in the session, he explained why he initially posed the question, saying, "See, it would've been weird if I just said, 'By a show of hands, how many bisexuals [are] in the audience?' But I feathered it into another question."

After the footage went viral among fans of the American drama series, Collins wrote on Twitter, "My clumsy intention was to wave off actually discussing my sexuality, but I badly fumbled that and understand that was seen as me coming out as bisexual."
